By the time of Cars 2, however, character Sir Miles Axelrod has concluded that oil is doing nothing more than adding to Earth’s pollution.  A line from the movie quotes, “It’s a fossil fuel.  Fossils, as in dead dinosaurs; and we all know what happened to them!  Alternative energy is the future.”  But as oil is the only source of fuel allowing the cars to stay alive, they plunge into a deep energy crisis.  Sir Axelrod tries to solve the shortage by inventing a type of green energy, known as ‘Allinol,’ as a smarter, safer substitute.  The cars soon discover though, that ‘Allinol’ is owned by ‘Buy N Large’, and is being used as a sort of capitalist, meant to turn everybody away from oil.  Its fake-green-fuel soon pollutes the earth to the point where it can no longer support human life at all, and even the cars eventually die out.
